Miley Cyrus explains bizarrely specific way she used to hide the money she spent on drugs from her accountant

Miley Cyrus recently opened up in a candid interview, revealing a bizarrely specific method she once used to hide the money she spent on drugs from her accountant. The pop star and former Hannah Montana actress has long been known for her honesty, but this latest confession offers a glimpse into a time in her life when she was deeply entangled in the world of fame, rebellion, and self-discovery.

Speaking on a podcast, Miley admitted that during her more chaotic years — particularly around the time of her controversial Bangerz era — she developed a sneaky system to conceal her drug spending. She said she would disguise the purchases as mundane or necessary expenses so they wouldn’t raise red flags with her financial team. But one particular tactic stood out: labeling drug-related expenses as “business costs.”

“I would literally write off rolling papers as something I needed for stage props,” Miley joked. “I got creative — maybe too creative.”

The 31-year-old singer explained that at the height of her experimentation, she was surrounded by “yes” people and enablers, but her accountant was someone she couldn’t fool easily. “He was the one person in my life that would always say, ‘Hey, this doesn’t add up,’” Miley recalled. “So I got into the habit of keeping cash stashed away — like literally in books, purses, and even in costume boxes — just so there wouldn’t be a paper trail.”

She also said she would sometimes overpay for seemingly unrelated services to mask what the money was really going toward. “I’d book studio time that I didn’t use, then pay the engineer a ‘tip’ that was basically just me laundering my own spending,” she admitted with a laugh. “It sounds ridiculous now, but when you’re in that world, your logic just doesn’t function normally.”

Miley was clear that she’s in a different place today. She described her relationship with money — and with herself — as much healthier, emphasizing that she’s been sober and more intentional about her choices for the past few years. “Back then, I was trying to escape a lot. I didn’t want anyone to see the cracks, not even my accountant. That’s how deep I was in it,” she said.

Reflecting on her past with a mix of humor and humility, Miley said she doesn’t regret the experiences but is grateful to have grown from them. “At the end of the day, it’s part of my story. I learned how to own up to things, even the embarrassing stuff.”

Her admission offers a raw and humorous insight into the high-pressure, sometimes absurd reality of being a young star in the spotlight. It’s a reminder that even megastars like Miley Cyrus had to learn the hard way how to manage both fame and finances — and that sometimes, the path to growth involves hiding your money in a wig box.
