Police Launch Desperate Search for Missing Girl and Boy Who Vanished Together Four Days Ago

Authorities have launched an urgent search for two missing teenagers—a girl and a boy—who mysteriously disappeared together four days ago, sparking growing concern among their families and communities.

The missing pair, identified as 14-year-old Ava Thompson and 15-year-old Jacob Ruiz, were last seen on the afternoon of April 17 in the small town of Maple Ridge. According to police, the two teens left school together around 3:45 p.m. and haven’t been seen or heard from since. Their phones have been turned off or are no longer traceable, and their social media accounts have gone silent.

Investigators say the circumstances surrounding their disappearance are “deeply troubling” and that foul play has not been ruled out.

“This is a very serious situation,” said Sergeant Lisa Monroe of the Maple Ridge Police Department during a press conference Monday morning. “We are treating this as a high-priority case. Both children are considered vulnerable, and the longer they remain missing, the more concerned we become for their safety.”

Family members describe Ava as a kind and artistic girl who loved painting and had recently expressed interest in volunteering at a local animal shelter. Jacob, a quiet but thoughtful teen, is known for his love of nature and hiking. The two reportedly became close friends earlier this school year.

Ava’s mother, Melissa Thompson, fought back tears as she made a public plea: “Ava, sweetheart, if you can see this, please come home. We love you so much and just want to know you’re safe. If anyone out there has seen her or Jacob, please speak up. Don’t wait.”

Authorities believe the pair may have had access to a small amount of cash and possibly packed backpacks with clothes and snacks, raising speculation that they may have run away. But their families insist that this behavior is completely out of character for both teens.

“They didn’t even leave a note,” said Jacob’s older sister, Elena Ruiz. “That’s not Jacob. He would never just disappear without telling anyone. Something’s not right.”

Search efforts have intensified over the weekend, with drones, search dogs, and dozens of volunteers combing through nearby forests, parks, and abandoned buildings. Police are also reviewing surveillance footage from businesses and traffic cameras in hopes of tracing their movements.

The community has rallied together, posting flyers, organizing search parties, and sharing updates across social media with the hashtag #FindAvaAndJacob.

“We need the public’s help,” Sgt. Monroe emphasized. “Even the smallest tip could be the breakthrough we need.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Maple Ridge Police Department or submit tips anonymously through the Crimestoppers hotline.

As each hour passes, the urgency grows. For two families waiting by the phone, and for a town holding its breath, hope remains that Ava and Jacob will be found safe—and soon.
