Old Couple Spends Last Savings for Grandson’s Education, He Doesn’t Invite Them to His Graduation

John and Martha had always dreamed of giving their grandson, Alex, the best life possible. After losing their only son and daughter-in-law in an accident, they became Alex’s guardians. They lived modestly on their small pension, but when Alex was accepted into a prestigious university, they didn’t hesitate to dip into their life savings to cover his tuition and expenses.

Years passed, and Alex rarely visited or called, always busy with studies or friends. John and Martha missed him dearly but believed he was focused on building a bright future. They imagined the day they would proudly watch him walk across the stage at graduation.

One day, John received a letter. Excited, he called Martha over, thinking it was the long-awaited invitation. But as they read, their hearts sank. It was from Alex, thanking them for everything but explaining that the ceremony was “just a small event” and he didn’t think it was necessary for them to attend.

Crushed, they sat in silence, the sacrifices they had made weighing heavily on their hearts. They had given up their comfort, their security, for a boy who now seemed to have forgotten them.

Months later, Alex returned home, diploma in hand, expecting a warm welcome. Instead, he found the house quiet and empty, a neighbor informing him that John and Martha had moved into a retirement home, unable to maintain their house any longer. Realizing the depth of his neglect, Alex rushed to see them, but the damage was done.

John and Martha welcomed him with polite smiles, but the warmth was gone. Alex finally understood that success meant nothing without the people who had loved and supported him unconditionally.
