My MIL Demanded to Sit Between Me and Her Son at Our Wedding – She Didn’t Expect Me to Agree So Easily
Planning a wedding is stressful enough, but my mother-in-law, Linda, made it even more challenging with her overbearing demands. From the flowers to the seating arrangements, she had an opinion on everything. But nothing topped her most outrageous request: she wanted to sit between me and her son during the ceremony.
“Yes, between us,” she insisted, claiming it was a “symbolic gesture” of how close she and her son were. I was stunned, expecting my fiancé, Jake, to shut it down immediately—but he hesitated, clearly uncomfortable confronting his mother.
That’s when I decided to play it cool.
With a sweet smile, I said, “Of course, Linda. You can sit between us.” Her face lit up, thinking she’d won. But little did she know, I had a plan.
On the wedding day, Linda arrived, dressed to impress, expecting her prime spot. But when she reached the altar, she found a special chair—right between me and Jake… in the front row, not at the altar. The officiant chuckled as he announced, “A seat of honor for the woman who brought the groom into this world.”
Everyone laughed, and Linda was too flustered to argue in front of the guests. She had no choice but to sit down while Jake and I exchanged our vows at the altar—alone, as it should be.
After the ceremony, she tried to bring it up, but I just smiled and said, “You did sit between us—just with the best view in the house.”
From that day on, Linda learned that I wasn’t someone she could easily push around. And Jake? He finally realized that setting boundaries with his mom didn’t mean loving her any less—it just meant loving us more.
