More than 8,000,000 PlayStation owners could be entitled to over £500 amid Sony claim

A class-action lawsuit has been filed against Sony, alleging that the company abused its dominant position in the gaming market by imposing unfair terms on developers and inflating prices on the PlayStation Store. The lawsuit claims that Sony’s 30% commission on digital game and in-game content sales led to excessive costs for consumers.

If successful, the lawsuit could result in compensation for approximately 8.9 million UK PlayStation owners who purchased digital games or add-on content between August 19, 2016, and August 19, 2022. Eligible individuals might receive between £67 and £562, depending on their purchases during that period.

To be eligible, you must have owned a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 and purchased digital games or in-game content from the PlayStation Store within the specified timeframe. The lawsuit operates on an opt-out basis, meaning eligible individuals are automatically included and do not need to take any action to join the claim. However, the legal process may take several years, and compensation is not guaranteed.
