Lawmakers Aim to Enforce ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome’ as a Classified Mental Health Disorder

In a move that has sent shockwaves through political circles, a group of lawmakers has introduced a bill to classify “Trump Derangement Syndrome” (TDS) as an official mental health disorder. The controversial proposal, spearheaded by Representative Bill Thornton (R-TX), aims to have the American Psychiatric Association (APA) recognize TDS in its Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-6).

“For too long, we’ve seen people lose their minds at the mere mention of President Trump,” Thornton stated at a press conference. “They scream at the sky, foam at the mouth, and some even refuse to celebrate the Fourth of July. This is a serious mental health crisis, and it’s time we treat it as such.”

The bill defines TDS as a “chronic psychological condition causing irrational obsession, extreme emotional reactions, and an inability to function normally in society when confronted with the existence of Donald J. Trump.” Symptoms reportedly include compulsively doomscrolling news about Trump, excessive tweeting about democracy being in peril, and experiencing physical distress upon hearing the phrase “Make America Great Again.”

Supporters of the bill argue that TDS has led to mass hysteria, damaged personal relationships, and even caused economic downturns. “Ever since 2016, we’ve seen entire Thanksgiving dinners ruined over political arguments. Friendships lost. Marriages destroyed,” said Senator Linda Roberts (R-FL). “If that’s not a mental health crisis, I don’t know what is.”

However, the bill has sparked fierce backlash from Democrats, who call it a blatant attempt to delegitimize criticism of the former president. “This is absurd,” said Representative Mark Davidson (D-CA). “If being outraged by Trump’s actions is a mental disorder, then half the country needs to be institutionalized.”

The medical community has been hesitant to weigh in, though some psychiatrists acknowledge that extreme political obsession—on both sides—can lead to stress-related disorders. Dr. Emily Carter, a leading psychologist, commented, “While excessive fixation on any political figure can be unhealthy, it’s questionable whether we should single out Trump-related distress as its own disorder.”

As the debate intensifies, social media has exploded with reactions. Trump himself took to Truth Social, posting, “FINALLY! Doctors admit what we’ve known for YEARS! TRUMP LIVES RENT-FREE in the heads of the radical left! SAD!!!”

Meanwhile, critics have jokingly suggested that if TDS becomes an official disorder, then “MAGA Delusion Syndrome” should also be classified for those who believe Trump won the 2020 election.

The bill is expected to face an uphill battle in Congress, but its mere introduction has already deepened political divisions. Whether or not TDS makes it into the DSM, one thing is clear—Trump is still managing to keep the country talking.
