Cecile Richards, Former President of Planned Parenthood, Has Died — Details & Her Last Post

Cecile Richards, the former president of Planned Parenthood and a prominent advocate for women’s rights, passed away on January 20, 2025, at the age of 67. She succumbed to glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, at her home, surrounded by family and her loyal dog, Ollie.

Richards led Planned Parenthood from 2006 to 2018, significantly expanding its services and advocacy efforts. Her tenure was marked by steadfast dedication to reproductive rights, even amid political challenges. Prior to her role at Planned Parenthood, she co-founded America Votes and served as deputy chief of staff for House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi.

In November 2024, President Joe Biden awarded Richards the Presidential Medal of Freedom, recognizing her unwavering commitment to civil rights.

Richards publicly disclosed her glioblastoma diagnosis in January 2024, continuing her advocacy work throughout her treatment.

Her family honored her legacy, stating, “Our hearts are broken today but we find comfort in knowing that Cecile’s work and impact will continue to inspire generations to come.”

Richards is survived by her husband, Kirk Adams, their three children, and a grandson.
