A Free Vacation Sounded Amazing Until I Found Out My Ex-Husband Was Coming Too — Story of the Day

Here’s your 300-word story:

When my best friend called to tell me I had won a free luxury vacation, I thought it was a prank. But no—it was real. A week at a gorgeous beachfront resort, all expenses paid. It felt like fate handing me a much-needed break.

That excitement lasted exactly three days. That’s when I found out my ex-husband, Daniel, was coming too.

Apparently, the vacation was part of a giveaway for couples who had booked their wedding at the resort years ago. Since Daniel and I had our honeymoon there, we were both automatically included in the prize. No way out.

I considered backing out, but why should I give up a free trip because of him? So, with a mix of determination and dread, I packed my bags.

The moment I saw Daniel at the airport, old frustrations bubbled up. The smirk, the casual arrogance—just like I remembered. But as the days went by, something strange happened.

We weren’t fighting. In fact, we were… laughing. Reminiscing. Sharing inside jokes we hadn’t thought about in years. He still knew how I liked my coffee. I still remembered how he always lost his sunglasses.

One night, we ended up on the beach, watching the sunset in comfortable silence. “I never hated you, you know,” he said suddenly.

I sighed. “I never hated you either.”

We both knew we weren’t meant to be, but at that moment, we found something unexpected—closure.

When the trip ended, we went our separate ways, for good this time. And as I walked away, I realized something: I came for a vacation, but I left with something even better—peace.
