A farmer goes out and buys a new

Sure! Here’s a 500-word story:

A farmer goes out and buys a new horse. It’s the most beautiful horse he has ever seen—glossy black coat, powerful muscles, and eyes that seem to understand everything. The seller assures him that this horse is special, a rare breed that can sense its owner’s emotions. The farmer is skeptical but takes it home anyway.

At first, everything seems normal. The horse is strong, obedient, and fast. The farmer begins to develop a bond with it. He names it Shadow, for the way it follows him around the farm.

One evening, as the sun sets behind the hills, the farmer notices something strange. Shadow stands near the fence, staring at the woods beyond the property. Its ears twitch, nostrils flare, as if it senses something unseen. The farmer looks but sees nothing unusual.

That night, he wakes up to the sound of frantic neighing. Running outside, he finds Shadow restless, stomping its hooves, eyes wild. The farmer tries to calm it down, but the horse refuses to be soothed. Suddenly, Shadow rears up and bolts toward the woods.

The farmer grabs a lantern and follows. The deeper he goes, the more uneasy he feels. The air is thick, silent except for the crunch of leaves beneath his boots. Then he hears it—a whisper, faint and eerie.

“Go back.”

He freezes. The voice is soft yet urgent. He swings the lantern around, but nothing is there. The horse stands still, staring into the darkness.

“Shadow?” The farmer’s voice shakes.

The horse snorts, pawing at the ground. And then he sees it—something buried beneath the leaves. A scrap of fabric. A hand.

His breath catches. He kneels, brushing away the dirt, revealing more. A body. A woman, her face frozen in shock, her clothes torn.

Heart pounding, he stumbles back. Shadow stands beside him, eerily calm. It had led him here. But why?

He rushes back to the house and calls the sheriff. When they return, the body is still there. The sheriff recognizes her immediately.

“She’s been missing for ten years.”

The farmer swallows hard. He looks at Shadow, standing silently beside him.

“How did you know?” he whispers.

The horse only flicks its ears.

From that night on, the farmer never doubts Shadow again.
