It was an ordinary afternoon when my five-year-old daughter, Lily, answered my husband’s phone. He had left it on the kitchen counter while taking a quick shower. As I prepared dinner, I could hear her giggling, talking to him like they were having their usual fun exchanges. But something changed.
I hadn’t realized she had forgotten to hang up the phone after their call. A few moments later, I was stirring the pot when I suddenly overheard my husband’s voice.
